In 1971, Edith Efron purported to expose the liberal bias of
the news media in The News Twisters. The dubiousness of
Efron's conclusion was matched by that of her methods, and critical
reaction was harsh. But,
under orders from Richard Nixon, Chuck Colson spent $8,000 buying copies of the
book in order to vault it onto the New York
Times best-seller
list.
Even before Efron's book was published, undermining
the news media was among Nixon's top priorities. In 196...More |
| Fox's Baier misrepresented Gore's comments about Myanmar cyclone | | mediamatters.org - During the May 8 edition of Fox
News' Special Report, guest host Bret Baier claimed that in an interview on National Public Radio, "Former Vice President Al Gore says global warming is to blame for
the cyclone in Myanmar." Baier subsequently
stated: "But many experts say it is impossible to credibly make such a
link. Willie Soon of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics tells Fox,
quote, 'It is an alarmist statement, and Vice President Gore wants to
confuse the crowd,' adding, ...More |
| Stacy Parker Aab: Mrs. Clinton and the Dying of the Dream | | huffingtonpost.com -
She will mourn. She will need to take time off to recuperate from the crushing disappointment. At some point she will call Al Gore, the one person who will truly understand both her pain and the possibilities ahead. He is the one who can tell her from experience and by example that her life is not over. That the best act is yet to come.
I hope this happens soon. After the May 6th North Carolina loss and Indiana near-loss, Mrs. Clinton is still acting like the gambler who ...More |
| Earl Ofari Hutchinson: The GOP Obama Hit Plan, Smear Him with the L Word | | huffingtonpost.com -
The president of a conservative political action outfit with the amorphous name of Citizens United minced no words. David Bossie flatly said that Obama is now their target. The independent committee has nearly a million dollars in the bank and almost certainly much more to come, and will churn out endless hit pieces on Obama. Bossie ticked off Obama's connection with former Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers, indicted Chicago financier Tony Rezko, and a revisit...More |

Staring into the jaws of a paper monster, even or especially one of our own construction, or teetering high over a chasm between impossible choices can be just as terrifying as the obstacles others lay in our path and our ability to keep trying to fix it, to connect--amongst many peoples or just two people--is something that can define a life.
Women and their obsessions and longing (longing just a ...More |

| Clinton Supporters Send Last-Ditch Obama Attack Emails To Supers | | huffingtonpost.com -
As the Democratic primary nears its long-awaited conclusion, undecided superdelegates have been drowned under a sudden deluge of angry, sometimes vicious emails from Hillary Clinton supporters urging them to not fall in line behind Barack Obama.
The letter writing campaign picked up steam late Thursday evening when several superdelegates confirmed that a coordinated effort had been launched, apparently independent of Clinton's campaign, to raise last-minute concerns about Obama's...More |
| Peggy Drexler: Humbly Submitted: A New Stump Speech for Hillary Clinton | | huffingtonpost.com -
Dear Senator Clinton:
When I heard that you have now spent about $12 million of your own money on what is looking increasingly like a mathematical impossibility, I had a thought.
Since you're paying for this anyway, and the odds of winning are about the same as W and Michael Moore going out for a beer after an afternoon of brush cutting, why not say exactly what you feel?
Think about it: simple truth as a campaign strategy. What do you have to lose?
I've taken the...More |
| Gore: No Cabinet Position For Me | | huffingtonpost.com -
Bloomberg has reported that Al Gore isn't looking for an official seat in the White House, no matter who wins in November:
"I won't accept a cabinet post regardless of which of the three candidates wins the presidency," Gore said yesterday.
"I am looking for a way to bring about change in other ways," the former vice president and former Democratic presidential candidate said. Gore is in Rome to present the Italian version of his Current Media Inc.'s Current TV channel.

| A Mark Penn Memo From 2007 About Those Big States | | feedburner.com -
There's been a bit of a back and forth today about that report saying that Mark Penn, unaware that Dems award their delegates proportionally, thought that Hillary would win all of California's 370 delegates.
Penn denied the report today. Either way, behind the anecdote is the larger, oft-told story of how the Hillary campaign erred by expecting the big states to carry them to victory, leading them to neglect the smaller states, where Obama racked up huge delegate margins.

| Robert Schlesinger: Hillary Clinton and the Veepstakes -- a logical move for her | | huffingtonpost.com -
With the last chances of winning the Democratic nomination slipping away, the question increasingly arises whether Hillary Clinton should hope for the number two spot.
The answer is a clear yes.
I am a big fan of Josh Marshall and Talking Points Memo and often agree with him, but I disagree with his conclusion that there's nothing in the two spot for her. He makes good points about her stature, but getting the number two nod helps by denying a stature-boost to someone e...More |
